“One year into his second term, President Donald Trump’s national approval rating is negative with 56% disapproving his job performance and 40% voicing approval. A majority, 55-42% say that his first year has been unsuccessful rather than successful,” said Don Levy, SRI’s executive director. “Pluralities say that the country is worse off than it was a year ago and that the nation’s economy has worsened rather than improved.”
“By 50-46%, voters approve of the job Trump is doing on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, and by 50-47%, they support his administration’s deportations of immigrants illegally living in the U.S. But, a majority now disapprove of how he is addressing immigration and nearly two-thirds, 63%, disapprove of how ICE is handling its job,” said Levy. “Sixty-one percent of Americans including 19% of Republicans, believe that ICE’s tactics have gone too far.”
“Majorities of voters oppose the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, 54-38%, Medicaid cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill, 56-29%, and the U.S. running Venezuela, 64-33%,” Levy said. “While 19% think Trump may end up deserving a spot on Mount Rushmore as one of our country’s best Presidents and an additional 15% think he’ll be an above average President, 42% think history will see Donald Trump as one of our worst Presidents.”
